Next Steps
Congratulations! You’re at the right center—Park Avenue Laser Vision. You’ve found the best surgeon—Dr. Chynn. You’ve had your eyes thoroughly examined, confirmed you’re a great candidate. What’s next?
A. Confirm with our Laser Technician and Dr. Chynn which procedure is best for you:
We will recommend whether to get CustomVue WaveFront in 1 or 2 eyes, whether to get LASEK or Epi-LASEK, and if MonoVision may be right for you (if you are over age 40 and read/use the computer a lot). We will tell you what Visual Acuity you can expect after the procedure (20/20, better than 20/20, etc.). Please understand why we recommend that particular procedure, and how you will see afterwards.
B. Pay your Deposit and Schedule your procedure:
We will collect a deposit of $500, which goes towards your surgery. Please note that this deposit is non-refundable if you decide not to have surgery, as it compensates us for the hours we spend testing you. The only exception is if Dr. Chynn feels you are not a good candidate based on test results, in which case your insurance will be charged for an office visit, since you have a medical condition, and your deposit refunded.
You can then schedule your procedure—typically 1-2 weeks in the future, but it can be sooner or later.
C. Complete your “Full Work-Up”:
You should be out of your contact lenses and taking preservative free artificial tears before your testing, to make sure all tests are as accurate as possible. If any test is less than perfect, we will have you come back for repeat testing while you are out of contacts longer and taking tears more frequently. If your eyes are dry, you may need punctal plugs before surgery instead of after—they are painless, and covered by insurance. Your prescription will be mapped by WaveScan, the corneal thickness and surface checked by Orbscan, your old prescriptions for glasses and contacts recorded (this is important, so bring them in!), your eyes checked for glaucoma and cataracts, and dilated to examine the optic nerve and retina. Whew! J
D. Get ready for your “Big Day”:
Continue not wearing contacts and taking tears. Drink lots of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and buy a “cool mist” ultrasonic humidifier. Fill your prescriptions. Stop wearing makeup and clean your lids and lashes with “eye scrubs.” Pay your balance 1 week prior to surgery. Bring a trusty companion with you on the day of your procedure. Look at the blinking light for only 1 minute! Come for your 1-day checkup— you will already be legal to drive! Keep your eyes closed as much as possible that weekend. You will be 20/20 by the next week, and perhaps better than 20/20 the next month. Go celebrate your New Life!
