LASEK Testimonials
My ravishing account of my successful LASEK operation!
Knowing that I would be starting medical school, and that my days would rarely be defined in 12 hr blocks (the max recommended length of time for contact lenses per day), I decided to go ahead with the surgery. My friend recommended me to Dr. Chynn because she had a high -10 prescription and astigmatism and after undergoing her LASIK procedure, she saw better than 20/20. After my initial consult, I did not shop around anymore. I had one set of eyes for my life, and I could not take any chances. I wanted the doctor with as high a success rate as Dr. Chynn to be the one taking care of my eyes. And within 3 weeks, I had LASEK done on both of my eyes. My glasses prescription was worse than -10 and I had severe astigmatism. I cannot be more satisfied with the outcome of my surgery. 3 months out from surgery, I am now seeing 20/20 in my left eye and 20/15 in my right eye. I am seeing better in my right eye than when using contact lenses. Being able to study, party, or even watch TV into the night without worrying about overusing my contact lenses is simply priceless. I do not come from a rich background; I received numerous discounts that made the surgery more affordable. At my prescription and the need for custom-made contact lenses, I started to accumulate a $500+ contact lens bill every year (in addition to my extra pair of glasses and all contact lens cleaning solutions). In the long run, this surgery will be well worth it in terms of cost, time, and convenience. Even my dad said that if the surgery were $10K, it would still be worth it. And it certainly is.Andrew Chow

Hi Dr. Chynn,
It has almost been a year since I had the LASEK procedure and I couldn't be happier with my vision( 20/13). If it wasn't for your skill and advanced training I don't think I could ever be seeing this clear. Even though it has been awhile since my surgery, I just wanted to let you know how much this has positively changed my life. Thank You!
Sincerely,
Melissa A. Heath

Dear Dr. Chynn,
I wore glasses or contact lenses for 10 years, and after your Lasek surgery I've got better than 20/20 vision! In the last few years, my contact lenses were irritating my eyes and giving me headaches. After Lasek surgery, I can see clearly and my headaches are gone!
My perfect vision developed slowly: After two weeks I was close to 20/20, but not quite there yet. After two months, I'm on my way to better than perfect vision -- 20/15 vision! Now, when I get home I can see so clearly that I often think I need to take out my contact lenses before I go to sleep... until I realize that contacts are a thing of the past for me. No more solutions, no more painful itching and dryness. WOW!
Your team is very professional, answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable at every stage.
As a researcher and writer, I read all day long. Dr. Chynn used a monovision technique to enable me to be able to read without glasses for years longer. I look forward to several decades of perfect vision.
Thanks again!!
Best,

Dr. Chynn,
Here is the testimonial I wrote for you. Attached is photo of me doing what Marines do best.
I am extremely happy with my LASEK operation performed by Dr. Chynn. I have been wearing glasses for most of my life and always hated it, and now I can see better than 20/20. As US Marine and having deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom II, I know the dangers of having bad eyes and having to depend on glasses. It is life or death situation if I lost my glasses while engaged in combat operations, which is why I always carried several pairs with me. Even then, it is a constant worry for me that I would not be able to see when the situation is at its most critical. Glasses do not fit under my gas mask and I needed to buy expensive prescription sunglasses for my deployment to Iraq, and while there, I had to constantly switch between my prescription glasses and my prescription sunglasses. It was then that I decided that it was time to get my eyes fix. Dr Chynn came highly recommended to me, and I never looked back since. Now with my improved vision, I shoot better on the rifle range, and can actually see what I am doing when doing combat swimming qualifications. Getting LASEK was the best investment I made and I will do it again in a heatbeat.
Thanks again,
Lcpl Raymond Wong
Dear Dr. Chynn,
It has been one month since my surgery and I am still amazed every time I wake up each morning. I reach for my glasses and then reality hits: I can See!!!!! I have worn glasses since I was in the second grade 45 years ago. I still remember that I could not see the chalkboard or my teacher's face, and that I had to copy my assignments from my friends.
One day last year I saw an article on Dr. Chynn and parkavenuelaser.com. I was tempted to call and schedule an appointment but I thought I was too old for the surgery. Then I was told that my vision was getting worse and that I was (-10). I wore gas permeable contact lenses and they were starting to bother me. I also had health issues that I knew for certain might eliminate me as a possible candidate for surgery.
My son told me he wanted to find the best physician possible. He researched the topic and found that Dr. Chynn was the best doctor performing Lasek surgery. I told him that I had seen Dr. Chynn 's article and that I had been impressed with him too. I decided to make an appointment. The day before my surgery I confided my health issues and Dr. Chynn just appeased my fears with his calm and reassuring way.
The surgery was quick and painless and the results were and still are amazing. God bless you Dr. Chynn.
Forever grateful,
Carmen Sanchez
"Upon meeting Dr. Chynn six weeks ago, my vision was so bad that I could not even see the Big "E" on the vision chart! "Thanks to the excellent surgical skill of Dr. Chynn (who performed the newest, bladeless, all-laser LASEK procedure on me) and his amazing staff, I currently possess vision of 20/13 in both eyes!"As a result, I was able to pass my Police entrance examination and am starting the Police Academy in three weeks--a life dream! Dr. Chynn and his staff are "tops" and I recommend them to all people who want to see 20/20 or better without glasses--like me!"

Dear Dr. Chynn,
I would like to take this opportunity and personally say "Thank You" for your professional honesty and a job well done. The results are fantastic, and I still can't believe that after 40 years of eye glasses dependence I am no longer needing glasses! How strange and wonderful, I am still getting used to the new way of seeing...
More importantly, thanks for keeping my best interest in mind before, during and after my eye correction. Luckily, I did my extensive research before I made my final decision, and visited two other prominent surgeons in NYC who told me I had to have the lens inside my eye removed and that I was not a good candidate for LASIK!
Once again I want to thank you for keeping my best interest at heart versus your own financial interest (because the new bladeless LASEK you recommended for me was over $1000 less expensive than the clear lens extraction the other doctors recommended).
Obviously, you stood up to the challenge and made it happen, despite my high level of eye correction required. In fact, the cost was not a deciding factor for me personally, and I was willing to pay whatever amount necessary to ensure best eye surgeon and service.
I must admit that you are a living proof that best talent is available to customers at a very reasonable cost. I will continue to promote and recommend your service to all my friends and acquaintances. Please keep well and all the best!
Yours Truly,
Eli
LASIK Testimonial
Absolutely amazing! It's unbelievable! I could see better at my one week post-op than I ever could with glasses or contacts. I have extremely high myopia and astigmatisms in both eyes and Dr.Chynn was able to fix everything so I can see better than ever. Now I can jet ski, scuba dive, snorkel and swim without worrying about special equipment or losing my contacts. Choosing to have lasek surgery was one of the best decisions I have ever made!
"After having the LASIK procedure on my right eye, everything was normal. I recovered from the procedure almost immediately, and the vision was simply terrific. I was looking forward to getting LASIK on my left eye. Just when I thought everything was going quite well, the unexpected happened: Just nine days after the surgery, I got poked in the eye. I was in a crowded bar, I turned and caught a finger just as someone was waving his arms around. (Of course it had to be the right eye, the one that just had the procedure. Bread always lands on the floor buttered side down!) Immediately afterwards, my vision was totally blurry and I was completely beside myself with worry that I had ruined my vision forever. Dr. Chynn examined me and saw that the eye was very inflamed. It did not appear to be infected, but just to be safe, Dr. Chynn ordered special culture media and slides from New York Eye & Ear Hospital down the block, and cultured my eye and performed a Gram stain. An eye infection can cause vision loss or even the loss of the eye, so it was extremely important to rule that out. Dr. Chynn also did a "lift and smooth" procedure to repair the cornea flap. Fortunately, I did not need special nylon sutures to hold the cornea flap, but it was reassuring to know that Dr. Chynn had fellowship training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery, so he could have done it had it been necessary. Apparently, there are doctors out there who perform LASIK that are not trained for these special procedures should something go wrong.
I'm very lucky that I had Dr. Chynn's skills and experience behind me, as he knew exactly what to do to correct my situation. My right-eye vision has since returned to better than 20/20, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate. I could have had vision-impairing wrinkles on the cornea, or even worse, I could have developed an infection. The moral of the story is that you have to BE CAREFUL and WEAR YOUR PROTECTIVE GLASSES. The LASIK procedure can be so successful that it is incredibly easy to forget that you just had eye surgery. I went to my follow up exams, and I was very disciplined about taking the prescribed drops. However, for one evening I simply wasn't thinking and I put myself in an at-risk situation. I wasn't wearing the protective sunglasses at the time because the bar was dark, and it simply never occurred to me that something like that could happen. Being responsible about your post-operative care is more than just taking drops and keeping appointments. You have to wear the protective sunglasses and keep yourself away from risky situations. You can’t control 100% of what happens out in the world, and what happened to me was certainly a freak occurrence. But had I been more careful, I might not have gone into that crowded room. I was lucky, but someone else might not be. The other moral to the story is that you have to have an eye doctor that has the skills, training and experience to deal with any contingency. You simply can't take any chances when it comes to your eyes! I was extremely fortunate to have a doctor with the ability to perform this vision-saving procedure."

Monovision Testimonial
Hi Dr Chynn,
I just wanted to send you an email to thank you on the epi-Lasik procedure that you performed. Since I am over 40, the Monovision procedure that you recommended has worked wonders for me. I spend most of the day in front of the computer and/or reading and I shouldÝnot need reading glasses for several years.
If both eyes were corrected for 20/20, I would definitely have issues with reading since I notice that my right eye can see far but not close. By having my left eye slightly undercorrected, I am able to see objects nearby very clearly. I am totally free of glasses and conduct a wide range of activities. This is definitely the best option for people over 40.
A friend of mine just got laser eye surgery in Connecticult near his home. Monovision was never even mentioned as an option. He just turned 40 this year and now he has problemsÝreading.
Another friend of mine received laser eye surgery a few years ago. He just wanted both eyes to be corrected to 20/20 and did notÝconsider the monovision procedure. He thought that he may have headaches if both eyes were not the same prescription. I noticed that most of the time, he has to wear glasses anyway which defeats the purpose. I've had no complications at all with monovision and would be disappointed if I had to wear reading glasses before I am 50.
I also appreciate theÝoutstanding customer service that you and your staff have provided. Some of my friends who have gotten Lasik just go in for the eye surgery and have not seen the doctor since. There is very little or no post-op follow-up at some other places.

Michelle had amblyopia(lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes) preoperatively. We had her crossed eyes corrected surgically, before her LASEK, by a pediatric ophthalmologist. Because of her pre-existing condition, Michelle had her surgery paid for my her medical insurance! Her eyes are now much straighter, will stay straighter, and she has better peripheral vision and stereo vision! All of which means she sees better, looks better, fells better, and is much happier and more confident before her surgery by Dr. Chynn! If you or anyone you know has a "lazy eye" or "crossed eye" and were told that they could not be helped many years ago, PLEASE tell them to visit Dr. Chynn! |

Punctal Plugs Testimonial
Dear Dr. Chynn,
"I wanted to thank you for the punctal plugs. After 3 to 4 months of my Lasik procedure I began to experience a bit of dryness in my right eye. My job has me reading various technical material, using the PC about 4 - 6 hours a day and doing field surveys at various construction sites. I was using my drops but still felt dryness. After seeing you about this, you recommended the plugs. After a day or 2, my eyes began to feel better. As the weeks went on, the dryness was alleviated. I am extremely happy with the procedure. It's been a bit more than 2 years since you did the procedure and I no longer experience the dryness. I still remember to use my rewetting drops but the uncomfortable feeling is a thing of the past. I strongly recommend this simple procedure to enjoy the relief & feel as if my vision is actually better."
Sincerely yours,
Heriberto S.
Patient Letters, Questions & Answers with Dr. Chynn
Dear Dr. Chynn,
Thanks for the very friendly and personal visit yesterday. I was very impressed as I did not expect to meet the doctor who would perform the surgery at the initial consultation. As a result, I have scheduled my surgery for May 5th. I do have a few questions now that it is sinking in and I really appreciate you giving me your email address and taking the time to read and answer it.
I meet with 100% of my preops and postops, which is the #1 reason people choose us! I am happy to answer all your questions, Michael.
I did read the articles in the papers given to me and I did not realize that for Lasek, it is a solution and not a laser exposing the cornea. That helps but since the healing process is not as quick and there could be more discomfort with Lasek, is it worth considering Lasik? Other questions are as follows:
It is true, there is slightly more discomfort in a lasek, but i really feel that it is totally worth a slight amount of added discomfort for only a couple of days given the vastly greater safety profile. In fact, i may stop offering lasik to my patients by the end of this year! I am attaching a note about the difference between the 2 procedures from one of my former patients for you to read:
I received surgery by Dr. Chynn in 2002-2003, and, as an Ophthalmic Technician, can assure you that there is no questions that LASEK is a much safer procedure than LASIK.
How do I know? Because I had an attempted LASIK in my right (non-dominant) eye that had to be aborted, because I squeezed so hard during the keratome pass that I wound up with an incomplete flap.
Dr. Chynn recognized that the laser portion of the procedure could not be safely performed, based on his Fellowship Training in Refractive Surgery. He thus decided to replace the partial flap, and wait almost 6 months for that eye to heal before attempting another procedure.
For the 2nd procedure, Dr. Chynn selected a Moria keratome to make a broader flap, so that the point of entry would be away from the original flap. He also chose a different footplate, to cut a thicker flap. Dr. Chynn was trained at Columbia and Harvard and this type of careful surgical planning proved its value when he created a second flap in my right eye without any problem, and was able to perform the ablation, and restore my vision in that eyeto 20/15!
We mutually decided, after the above experience, to avoid cutting any type of flap whatsoever (even the IntraLase "all-laser" procedure cuts a flap, which IntraLase tries not to tell you).
Dr. Chynn therefore performed a No-Cut, No-Flap, All-Laser LASEK on my left eye, and also brought that eye to better than 20/20 uncorrected acuity--but without any possibility of a flap complication (because no flap is created in the 1st place).
Now, thanks to Dr. Chynn's expertise and his careful management of the inevitable complications any high-volume surgeon has, I am seeing very well now out of each eye--much better than I did even with glasses before!
I seriously think, from both my personal experience and professional understanding, that anyone who wants the very safest procedure and best visual results should prefer LASEK over LASIK (and should consider going to Dr. Chynn as well)!
I am happy to answer further questions about this or other topics, as I am a certified Laser Technician by VISX, and Dr. Chynn has my contact information if you want to emial me.
Sincerely,
Pedro B.

| Question: | Will my head be held in place by something during the surgery? |
| Answer: | Yes, don't worry about this, when you think about it, Michael, this problem was probably addressed years ago, since over 1 million americans are getting laser vision correction each and every year now--but i appreciate your help!:) |
| Question: | Will my eyelids be held open by something during the surgery? I am a little concern about this as my left eye seems to squint or twitch when something or someone gets close to it. |
| Answer: | Again, of course, yes!:) |
| Question: | Does this reaction increase the possibility that something could go wrong during the surgery? |
| Answer: | Yes, see testimonial above. I suggest the following system to practice before your surgery:
|
| Question: | Will I be given something prior to surgery to help me relax which would also aid in not trying to move during the procedure? |
| Answer: | See the answer above. |
| Question: | If not, could I take something on my own? |
| Answer: | It's not necessary. |
| Question: | I believe you will be doing customvue in my right eye and Monovision in my left. I read in one article that if I see 20/20 with my glasses now, I have a good chance of seeing 20/20 after the procedure. With the mixed procedure, what could my vision be, i.e., will I have 20/20 in the right and 20/40 in the left? If so what will the combine vision be? |
| Answer: | Your combined vision is always slightly better than the vision in the best-seeing eye alone, so in the case above your combined vision would be slightly better than 20/20! |
| Question: | The procedure will be done on a Thursday. Will I be well enough to attend my son's T-ball game at 5pm on Saturday or should I put the procedure off until the following week when he has a game on Sunday? |
| Answer: | You can attend tball but you cannot coach or play and must wear your protective wrap-around shades which we will provide to you. |
| Question: | One of the main reasons for having the procedure is so I can see while swimming in our pool, especially my kids since they are young. How long after surgery should I wait before going swimming? Is the chlorine a problem? I read that I must agree to wear protective UV sunglasses when in bright sunlight for 6 months after the procedure, does that mean no swimming or removing the glasses while swimming even if going under water? If I plan to be active in the pool this summer, should I hold off until September or so to have the procedure done? |
| Answer: | You can hang out near the pool with your legs in the water by 10 days, and go in up to the waist by 2 weeks, put your head in the water with your eyes closed or with goggles on by 1 month, and swim with your eyes open under water by 2 months. So i thinky you will be fine. |
| I apologize for the lengthy email. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions and I look forward to having the procedures on May 5th. | |
No problem, looking forward to operating on you May 5 and getting you back into the pool by the beginning of June!
